Gerber Perez - Third Grade Teacher at Proximos Pasos
A Little Bit About Me:
My name is Gerber Perez. I am a missionary in my own country of Guatemala. I live with my family in the town of San Antonio Aguas Calientes. I attend the Central American Church with my family in my village. I teach Sunday School to the twelve and thirteen year old class. I like to play soccer and write poetry.
My Calling:
I worked for 3 years at Escuela Vida y Esperanza in Santa Lucia. I taught computer, music, Bible and third and fourth grade. In 2004 I started working as a missionary at Vida y Esperanza and made my focus teaching Christian Education to all the grades. This past year God touched my heart and called me to work in the indigenous community of Santa Maria de Jesus at the Proximos Pasos School for girls. I am teaching Bible to all grades and teaching the third grade.
I believe that God can speak to the girls through education, especially through Bible classes and Christ-centered teaching of all the subjects. My hope and desire is to help form a Christian character in each girl through teaching them Christian principles in the Bible.
I have learned that as God uses me to help change people, He often has to change my own heart first.
During my time off from school I help my family with our family ministry in Ixcan, in the northern part of Guatemala. We help to train up national pastors who haven't been to seminary and hold Vacation Bible School for the children. We also do various projects like medical outreaches and digging wells for the people.
Prayer Requests:
- For each Proximos Pasos girl and her family - that they would come to know Christ as their savior.
- For the teachers at Proximos Pasos -that God would use us as instruments to bring His glory to Santa Maria de Jesus.
- For my dad as he leads our family ministry
- That God will provide the necessary finances to continue with my ministry
- Praise God for my dad's example as a servant
